Located in the former Savannah Post Office, the Tennessee River Museum is the realization of a vision shared by several local business owners after the announcement that a new post office was being constructed. Not wanting this historic 1939 building to be left vacant, these individuals envisioned a museum dedicated to preserving the history of Hardin County and offering future generations a look into the area’s rich archeological and historical past. Thanks to their untiring efforts, in 1992 the Tennessee River Museum opened its doors to the public, and since that time, thousands of visitors have been enjoying the exhibits and learning about Hardin County's past.

  • Great museum. The staff is super friendly, helpful and informative. The displays are eye-catching and clean. Lots of history that was, sadly, new to me; for example, the earth mounds. Went back to Shiloh battlefield with a better understanding of the history behind the history, so to speak.
  • While visiting the area we stopped here. The museum was a nice little field trip. My children enjoyed the videos and museum pieces. It was air conditioned and educational.
