Located in the former Savannah Post Office, the Tennessee River Museum is the realization of a vision shared by several local business owners after the announcement that a new post office was being constructed. Not wanting this historic 1939 building to be left vacant, these individuals envisioned a museum dedicated to preserving the history of Hardin County and offering future generations a look into the area’s rich archeological and historical past. Thanks to their untiring efforts, in 1992 the Tennessee River Museum opened its doors to the public, and since that time, thousands of visitors have been enjoying the exhibits and learning about Hardin County's past.

  • Museum proved to be much better than I expected from a small, local museum. Lots of history around this large river and they pretty much cover it all, from "mound-makers" through the riverboat era...

  • I choose to stay In Savannah to avoid a storm up north and so I was wondering around looking for things to see. I love learning about a small towns history and this town did not disappoint. I walked in and Lauren was sitting behind the desk. She was incredibly nice and welcoming as I told her my quick story. I wandered through the museum for about an hour. As I travel I get more and more into history so it was cool to learn about Savannahs, between the people, the river and the battle of Shiloh. After I got to talk to Lauren for a bit and she is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to her town and you can tell how much she loves history. Definitely a must stop in.
  • Great place to stop! Lots of artifacts and information here. You could spend a few hours here.
