If the stones of Bonaventure Cemetery could talk, they would narrate some of Savannah's most dramatic stories. Located on a scenic bluff overlooking the Wilmington River, the cemetery shot to fame in 1994 when it became a setting for a movie directed by Clint Eastwood. A quiet place of oaks, lawn sculptures, and dripping Spanish moss, the cemetery attracts visitors with its eerie feel, which inspired writer John Berendt to call it "the garden of good and evil." As you stroll through the cemetery, look for the graves of poet Conrad Aiken, actress Edythe Chapman, and songwriter Johnny Mercer. Bonaventure Cemetery is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our , world travel planner Edition.

  • Bonaventure is beautiful. You can tell that it is visited often, but there is so much love in taking care of the grounds. There are a lot of paths to both walk and/or drive, and the benches along the river offer quiet places to stop and take in everything around you when you visit. Definitely a must visit place to respectfully explore when you’re in Savannah.
  • Just completed tour with Shannon Scott. Absolutely excellent. My travel group all agreed this was our favorite tour. Shannon is so knowledgeable. The history, so interesting.
