Create an itinerary including First African Baptist Church
Originated as one of the first black Baptist congregations in North America, First African Baptist Church is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The organization's beginning dates back to 1773, when African American slaves and freemen organized during the turmoil of the American Revolution, and the church was officially founded in 1777. You can visit the church today, still a working institution and a major part of Savannah history. Admire the antique light fixtures, stained-glass windows, and pipe organ. Take a tour to learn about the church's rich history, including its role as a stop on the Underground Railroad. Check online for information on service, prayer, and tour times. • The First African Baptist Church tour is well worth the time and money! The exterior of the church is simple and unassuming but the interior is glorious. Most of the original details are preserved...

  • Charming old church in downtown Savannah- dynamic preacher and gospel singers. We didn’t do the tour just went to church on Sunday morning- park for free in their lot on Sunday…got a nice rose for the ladies on Mother’s Day
  • Really great event. Not really a tour but a very well taught history of the church with views of memorabilia that was truly amazing. The pastor that did the event was really great, funny, engaging and really taught me something! You want to understand the pic? Then you have to go!
