  • The best part of the 1/3 mile paved walk to the tree is the lack of crowds. While Sequoia had long lines to see the big trees and the trails were quite crowded, Kings Canyon had a much calmer vibe...

  • You have to walk a substantial distance to get around Grant Grove and see the General Grant tree, but its very worth it. Several other interesting sights are on this trail. Like the General Sherman...

  • General Grant looks like any other old sequoia: big stump with some scrappy green draped on top. The pathways don't allow to get really close nor do they provide the distant views that allow you to capture the full tree. The loop is easy to walk and the site is close to the entrance to the park. So, expect crowds. Having said all that, it is definitely worth the visit.
  • The General Grant tree (reportedly the 2nd largest tree by volume in the world) was a short hike down an easily accessible path to the giant. I preferred the experience of the General Sherman tree, the world's largest sequoia several miles south of the General Grant grove, but there were quite a few beautiful sequoia trees along the General Grant path, including a fallen sequoia that was hollowed out, providing an opportunity to walk through one of the giant trees yourself. I definitely recommend a visit, especially if entering from the north end of the park, but absolutely recommend experiencing the General Sherman tree as well.
