The Jake's Creek trail is one of my favorites short hikes. It is also one of the best trails in the GSMNP for accessing the backcountry. Want a long point to point with Tremont? This is an option. How about access to the AT? You got it. Suggestion. Leaving Elkmont (upper parking area) ignore the sign telling you to turn left. Continue on the road until you reach the stables where the park once kept horses for the rangers. Bare left on the little used trail and follow it to a log bridge across Jake's Creek. Continue up hill until you reach the old road that is the Jake's Creek trail. No steep gratuitous climb on a service road, just the beauty you have come here to enjoy...
