IT JUST DOESN’T GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS! Our group of 4 enjoyed a 10 day trip into the wilds of the Gulf of Alaska with Captain Colin and Autumn for a trip of a lifetime. As with any Alaskan trip, weather plays a key role in trip planning and always provides an exciting adventure. The Darby is a very comfortable, cozy converted trawler and the bridge allows for excellent viewing of wildlife. Colin is an extremely competent Captain with years of experience and we felt very comfortable with his choice of anchorages and reading of the sea conditions. This allowed us to maximize our fun each day. He is very familiar with the wildlife and we were able to view numerous sea birds including the thick billed cormorant, parakeet auklets and tufted puffins as well as gray whales, fin whales, humpbacks and pods of orca. It was easy to launch the kayaks from the Darby and spend the day exploring the coastline on a more intimate level before returning to the boat for hot drinks and thoughts of a wonderful evening meal. Colin and Autumn brought a wealth of knowledge and various experiences to make the trip extremely informative and personal. We wish them much success in their new venture! John & Kat
Our Darby experience was phenomenal from launch to dock! Three days/two nights: relaxation, awe of Alaska's beauty, laid back adventure, our own schedule and planning, and optimum family time. No crowds, no phones, off the grid! Consists of glacier calving, 10+ whale watching, skiff pre-dawn adventures to an amazingly quiet cove little to no humans have experienced, numerous waterfalls, waking in a serene cove and hot coffee/scones, wildlife we don't see in Georgia, beach walk to pluck the perfect Alaska beach stone, polar bear plunge, catching salmon and nourish with him 3 hours later (again thanks Autum for the superb cooking!), family of eagles, playful seals, sea otters, puffins,! Little to no human contact for 3 days of God's beauty and amazing menu and foods. Thank you Chef Autumn and Captain Melissa! Colin when you broke your femur you found us the perfect captain in Melissa. We loved our time and adventure.
