#2 of 11 in Things to do in Shelburne
Nestled on the shores of Lake Champlain, Shelburne Farms remains a great place to spend some quality family time in the countryside, petting goats and rabbits, watching cheddar cheese being made, and learning about sustainable living. This nonprofit organization is set on a historic working farm that dates back to 1886, and represents an excellent example of a Gilded Age "ornamental farm." Enjoy more than 16 km (10 mi) of walking trails, take the tour of lush garden followed by afternoon tea and cookies, or ride on an open-air truck-pulled wagon through the historic landscape. Children will love the opportunity to collect eggs or milk cows by hand. • We spent the most wonderful day here! I loved seeing the animals and the views are just beautiful. I went in the fall and it was just gorgeous. Allot a few hours because I could have stayed all day!
  • Very interactive farm with cheese making, animals to pet and presentations on the herbal and edible gardens. LOTS of walking stroller safe, kid friendly- even/groomed trails. Make reservations in advanced for breakfast at the hotel/lodge on the lake. Pricy but a beautiful historic dining room of a mansion- open with french doors to flowing lawns and walk down to the lake. Serves specialty alcoholic drinks. All food locally sourced, mostly grown on the farm. Probably the best part if the visit- reservations required!
