A birder's dream! If this place was local I would probably be there daily. The grounds are absolutely beautiful. Paths are well maintained and easy to walk. Bird feeders are well maintained and attract a great variety of birds. The gift shop has many original and hand made gift items.
I was so excited to attend a hummingbird banding. Birds are trapped in soft mesh cage-like traps, measured, weighed and then a tiny band is placed on one leg. All this is recorded and submitted to a central location. After that the birds are fed and then a volunteer holds the bird up next to you so a friend can take your picture then places the bird in your relaxed palm. You get to hold a tiny hummingbird and feel it vibrate as it breathes. Then it flies away. During the measuring, etc., Sherry, the volunteer measuring, will answer any questions or just talk about everything hummingbird. She's been doing it for over 2 decades and is extremely knowledgeable. It was all fascinating.
