Sitting at the highest altitude among the Finger Lakes of New York, Skaneateles Lake has earned the title of "roof garden." It's pure enough to drink from. Twice a year, a team of people inspects the water at 2,600 different spots and works to maintain the lake's impeccable quality. With a length of 26 km (16 mi) and depth of 96 m (315 ft), the lake permits a multitude of fishing and boating activities. You can find several boat launch spots throughout the area, and local operators offer lake cruises and excursions as well. Or, you can use local kayak and canoe rental agencies. You can expect encounter salmon, bass, trout, pickerel, yellow perch, and brown bullhead, among more than a dozen types of fish.
