Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Sleepy Hollow, New York, is the final resting place of numerous famous figures, including Washington Irving, whose 1820 short story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" is set in the adjacent burying ground at the Old Dutch Church of Sleepy Hollow. Incorporated in 1849 as Tarrytown Cemetery, the site posthumously honored Irving's request that it change its name to Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.

  • a beautiful and historic cemetery to visit any time of the year. the last time I visited was on Halloween. honestly I would say this would be the worst day to go because it was full of families and tourists taking Halloween pictures. but if you're looking for a nice stroll with some stunning old grave stones, this is a awesome place to stop.
  • Well, a cemetery certainly isn't a place you'd leave a Google Review for, but this is different thanks to the history. If you own a larger car, you're better off walking to see the historic burials because the roads can get tight or unpaved. The very bottom has the Headless Horseman bridge that's over a lovely little creek, and it's great for photography. The entire town of Sleepy Hollow is lovely but this is the highlight. Bathrooms aren't always in service so you may have to use a portable one.
