The Jonathan Hamilton House, also known as the Hamilton House, is a historic house at 40 Vaughan's Lane in South Berwick, Maine. Built between 1787 and 1788 by a merchant from Portsmouth, New Hampshire, this National Historic Landmark is a little-altered and high quality late Georgian country house. Acquired by preservationist friends of South Berwick native Sarah Orne Jewett at the turn of the 20th century, it is now a historic house museum owned by Historic New England, open for tours between June and October.

  • Beautiful setting and garden at this historic house owned by the New England Historical Society. Definitely worth an afternoon and tour.

  • This is such a wonderful and historic place to go for a walk, either short or long. There is a network of very wide and well maintained trails in a series of loops that can extend into a lengthy hike. The topography rolls along a bit through the mature oak-pine cover type with nothing very steep or difficult but it's beautiful, clean and refreshing. The best thing is that it's easy to find and get to from the southern Maine and New Hampshire seacoast region. The views of the Salmon Falls River are also great to take in. Definitely a "must see".
  • Very nice grounds. The house opens in June, but in may you can walk the grounds and enjoy the views. Porta potties available in the parking lot.
