Relax in a peaceful, secluded area of Lake Tahoe at Pope Beach. Sheltered by pine trees and mountains, this shore generally remains uncrowded, with facilities including picnic tables, barbecue grills, and restrooms. Stretch out on the clean sand or take a dip in the shallow water, which is also perfect for children. If you bring food, remember to keep it covered in case seagulls swoop in. If driving, bring cash for the parking fee. Put Pope Beach at the forefront of your travel plans using our South Lake Tahoe road trip tool.

  • We spent a few hours on the beach. There is shade to be had if you are visitors like us without umbrellas! The sand gets really hot though so water shoes are definitely needed. Our friends...

  • Lake Tahoe in summer, sunny days and snow still on the mountains. Pope Beach has public parking and is a popular family venue. We cycled to it so there was no charge. Cars are charged around ten dollars for entry. Clean toilets and picnic tables. Miles of soft sand, clear but cold water, stunning views and the famous blue of Lake Tahoe. And families at play. And not at all crowded. Being older and wiser, we chose not to swim. A few rugged young people did go in. We just spent easy hours enjoying the view and the cool breezes off the lake. There are quite a few Canada geese, unafraid and looking cute and wanting to be fed. The bird life is interesting. A bald eagle cruising above us made my day.
  • What can I say about Pope Beach...It's absolutely beautiful. The pictures say it all... Pristine sand and crystal clear water combined with incredible views in every direction... Next time you're in South Lake Tahoe be sure to stop by and take it all in...
