Relax in a peaceful, secluded area of Lake Tahoe at Pope Beach. Sheltered by pine trees and mountains, this shore generally remains uncrowded, with facilities including picnic tables, barbecue grills, and restrooms. Stretch out on the clean sand or take a dip in the shallow water, which is also perfect for children. If you bring food, remember to keep it covered in case seagulls swoop in. If driving, bring cash for the parking fee. Put Pope Beach at the forefront of your travel plans using our South Lake Tahoe road trip tool .
Pope Beach Reviews
We felt like sardines - not a great idea to visit on the weekend after noon! However, the water was beautiful, cool, refreshing. We parked on the road and walked in (about .5/mile) because we arrived ... more »
Beautiful beach for water activities, such as Kayak, Standing paddle board and so on. $10 per a vehicle. Plenty parking space. Best beach in South Lake Tahoe. more »
Very nice public beach at Lake Tahoe. It's managed by the National Park Service. Entrance costs $10. Parking was easy. The beach was clean, it was busy but not noisy (no ghetto blasters or other sound machines). The water was chilly. From the waterline the water gets deep very quickly: within a few meters it's neck deep. It was pretty hot, but thanks to the cold water there was a very pleasant breeze. We had a great afternoon.
Love this place, water was crystal clear and you can literally see your toes even if you are in the deep end to your neck. We went the first week of August and water was cold but tolerable enough to even out with the hot weather of high 80's. The sand is very fine and dark. They is an entrance fee of $10.00 for parking. There are also kayak rentals. We saw some cute ducks and their babies.
