The Southampton Historical Museum was organized in 1898 and incorporated in 1910. In its early days, the Society collected and exhibited historical objects and documents relating to the history and development of Southampton, organized pageants, and gave lectures on antiques. By the 1990s the Rogers Mansion property had expanded to include 12 historic structures including a one-room schoolhouse, a 1825 barn, and a 19th century paint shore, among others. The museum is open year-round with changing exhibits on historic topics, a research center, and extensive education programs for schoolchildren and adults. Before you visit Southampton, use our trip planner to discover what you can do and see there.
The Rogers Mansion contains an extensive research library and archives dedicated to the history of Southampton and its surrounding areas. The library currently contains over 800 volumes and the archives include a wide range of subjects from account books to family memorabilia. Come explore our research center and with the help of a research assistant see what you can discover.
The admissions fee is $4 per person, free for members of the museum and children under 17 years of age.
Southampton History Museum reviews
This is a series of recreated houses and little mini businesses going back in time. Lovely stately home as well - see photos more »
Nice house hosting the history of the city. Easy to go thru, with well developed signing posts with relevant info about the key people and historical developments. Perfect for a 30-45 minute visit..... more »
They talk about this being a collection of buildings but I was not impressed with what I saw when we arrived. Each building has a mixture of original, reproduction, and some modern. Nothing like a place like Colonial Williamsburg. But the meuseum inside the house makes up for it. Free to visit the grounds, $5 for the house. Easy parking right across the street courtisy of the oldest Presbyterian Church in the US.
Lovely historical facility. I attended a cocktail party there after the annual Southampton Insider's Tour of homes in the area. Great fun.
