Sail Acadia National Park with Captain Karl aboard the Alice E, the world's oldest Friendship Sloop still sailing.

Built in 1899, the Friendship Sloop Alice E. was originally a working sailing craft used by Maine fisherman.

Now she offers private and shared charters in the Bar Harbor area for up to six passengers every day from May to October, from Southwest Harbor, Maine.

Sail Acadia also offers private and shared charters aboard the Friendship Sloop Helen Brooks out of Northeast Harbor, as well as nature cruises (with lobster fishing!), private charters, and water taxi service aboard our wooden lobster boat, the Elizabeth T.

  • I would highly recommend Sail Acadia. My group of 4 did the private sunset sail with Karl and enjoyed both the unique and peaceful experience as well as Karl himself. Karl was very informative with our many sailing and lobster related questions. The views were beautiful and weather perfect - between that and Karl being an experienced at taking photos of sailing groups, we have beautiful photos to remember the experience with. We were also able to see some seals.
  • We had a wonderful morning on the Elizabeth T. We had a group of 7 ranging 4 years- 70 years. This had a little something for everyone. We were delighted to have sunshine back after 2 days of rain. I am sure with the fog it would be a neat experience and what the real deal watermen roll with but we were happy for sun. The kids loved seeing the lobster trap and learning about the industry, anatomy etc. Jonathan and the woman on our boat were very willing to answer questions. She was extremely knowledgeable to the local history and had fun backgrounds on many of the houses, etc. I think next up will be getting the kids on a working lobster boat. Had fun!
