It's really hard to find words to describe the excitement and the wonder of seeing Zion with this group. My husband and I attended three photography tours with Christian and Seth as guides in July, 2018. In every way, in every tour, these guides went the extra mile. They are also able to work with a variety of levels of photographer, so everybody went away learning a lot. Tour #1 The slot Canyon Tour with Christian: Gorgeous slot canyon that is not accessible to the public. We were driven within yards of the entrance to this gorgeous canyon (no hauling gear for miles). It was triple digits under a brutal sun outside, but inside it was cool and shaded (and dry on this day). Our tour had young people as well as a few seniors - this tour works well for all ages. Christian had several tips to push our images of the canyon to the next level. Tour #2 Sunset tour with Seth and Christian: Absolutely amazing vista to photograph the sunset. Something I would not have found on my own and would not have been able to reach easily in my car. Absolutely "delicious" compositions available here. Both Seth and Christian are amazing people with positive attitudes and absolutely dedicated to helping photographers get their desired result. Tour #3 Milky Way photography tour with Christian: Christian really went the extra mile on this tour, staying available for three consecutive nights until we got an optimal sky (it was the monsoon season, so cloud cover was a factor). Learned a ton about shooting under night conditions, including some vital gear and software app recommendations that will help me plan future shoots. All delivered with a great sense of humor - which is great when you're out in the middle of the night! This tour starts late and ends later, so plan to go easy the day after. Though we did not have Kate as a guide, she did come and photograph a reception we attended and was a lovely, lovely person to work with - so keep that in mind should you be needing a photographer for an event in Zion. Thanks for all the wonderful moments in Zion - can't wait to come back and do another tour! Note: be sure to have your hiking shoes and clothes for these tours - they also provided special shoes and neoprene socks in case there was water in the slot canyon (which there wasn't). There are clean facilities at the tour office which are good to visit before heading out. One final note, you might ask about parking. We never had to pay for street parking as the guides let us use the slot taken up by the van, and in the night tour, we followed the van for the second half of the shoot so we could be closer to our lodging when the tour concluded. During very busy times, however, you might need to pay to park on the street.
My wife Lynn and I took the slot canyon tour recently with Kate. She asked if she could bring her dog Juniper with her but put no pressure on us to agree. We like dogs and Junie was so much fun. Lynn's camera was fairly new and had many features on it that her old one did not have, and Kate was such a good teacher. She is very knowledgeable not only with the capabilities of the camera, but also how to get the most out of the camera to get the best photo. We took the night photography tour with Christian and he was also very knowledgeable about the camera and knew how to get great night shots. We booked the tours with Seth and he made some suggestions to change some times and dates so the lighting would be best and he was right on. If you are an amateur photographer who wants to get better, this is for you. They are very patient and love to help. Even if you are experienced, they can still teach you stuff. It was the highlight of our vacation and I can't recommend them highly enough.
