Pay tribute to one of the nation’s most iconic leaders at Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. One of the most-visited presidential libraries in the country, the museum features an extensive collection of artifacts and memorabilia documenting the life and political career of the 16th U.S. president, as well as the events of the American Civil War. Venture through the “Pre-Presidential Years” exhibit to tour a life-size replica of Lincoln’s childhood home, then head to the “Presidential Years” section to view an original handwritten Gettysburg Address and signed Emancipation Proclamation. Don’t miss a visit to the life-size diorama of the presidential box at Ford’s Theatre, the site of Lincoln’s 1865 assassination. Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum Reviews
I visited this museum not long after it first opened and have been wanting to come back ever since. The second visit did not disappoint - though it was during COVID times, so some adjustments were to.... more »
I honestly can't recommend this any higher. This is a MUST-SEE when in Springfield! See the theatre to the right of the White House first, then see the show in the far left theater before going into..... more »
First of all, technically the Presidential Library and Museum are two separate buildings. The Library is free and open to the public. It is across the street from the museum. The average public is allowed only on the first floor. Those researchers wanting to study A. Lincoln can gain access to the upper floors. For those who are not doing historical research, but would like to look at some of A. Lincoln archives, there is a room the security guard will provide access upon request. Bags, etc must be locked up in lockers prior to entering. The first floor ‘open’ area has the ranking of the Presidents by historians. (Don’t wander around looking for #44, Grover Cleveland was President for two separate terms.). There were also a few interesting statues and paintings as well. Security personnel were extremely pleasant and willing to share anything they could to make your stay worthwhile.
This is my favorite presidential library so far. The way the library was organized was amazing. It created a Disney World like experience and a tour of President Lincoln's life. Everyone at the museum was great. The movies were incredible. This is definitely a must visit Presidential Library for anyone ever interested in presidential libraries.
