Create an itinerary including Oak Ridge Cemetery
Known internationally as the final resting place of Abraham Lincoln and his family, Oak Ridge Cemetery counts among the nation's most visited memorial parks and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Dating back to the 1850s, the cemetery includes three state memorials dedicated to Illinois natives who served in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. To see some of the cemetery's oldest graves, take a walk along the tree-lined paths just to the right of the Lincoln family tomb. Before you leave the cemetery grounds for good, consider this: Locals believe that rubbing the nose of Lincoln's bust brings good luck and prosperity. • We went on the yearly cemetery walk, the volunteers were in period dress and described the lives of the people that made Springfield what it is today. It was a beautiful day for a walk and we learned a lot. It was also helpful the had a small school bus to take you to the beginning of the tour and then back to where you parked. Oak Ridge is a stunning cemetery, well designed and where Lincoln and his family are buried. They had Lincolns funeral coach on display, next to his original tomb.
  • Beautifully maintained cemetery. Worth it just for a view of Lincolns tomb, but they have marked numerous other historic and notable gravesites so there is definitely more there to explore.
