Island Outfitters, St. George Island

We just returned from an annual stay at St. George Island S.P. We stopped in Island Outfitters to look at Hobie Kayaks. We spent a great deal of time talking to the owners and ended up buying 2 Hobie Mirage Lynx kayaks which we enjoyed during our stay on SGI. The owners were very informative and helpful without applying pressure. Larry even went to their house to get one of the kayaks that was not in the store and made a second trip to get a couple of things that were not with the kayak. We stopped in a couple of times during our stay to ask questions about the kayak and buy more accessories and were always greeted in a very friendly manner. To some of the other comments about wearing masks, they are no longer requiring them, but we had them in the truck and would have certainly respected their rules as we do at other establishments. If you don't like the rules, vote with your feet and don't be a whiner. As far as teenagers or kids being spoken to harshly, I saw kids with parents not paying any attention to what they were doing. The owners just reminded them that is an expensive board you are swinging around. Parents should be parents and take responsibility.

Best selection of good-quality beachwear and fishing gear on the island! The staff was extremely helpful getting our family setup with kayak rentals, including loading them up on our rental car. Happy to hear that they required masks when necessary and had the safety of their staff in mind. We’ll definitely be back next summer.
