The Narrows is the tidal strait separating the boroughs of Staten Island and Brooklyn in New York City, United States. It connects the Upper New York Bay and Lower New York Bay and forms the principal channel by which the Hudson River empties into the Atlantic Ocean. It has long been considered to be the maritime "gateway" to New York City and historically has been one of the most important entrances into the harbors of the Port of New York and New Jersey.

  • The Narrows (at Fort Wadsworth) is a very scenic spot for views of New York Harbor and Staten Island, to be enjoyed by native Staten Islanders as well as ANY tourist--at any time of the year...

  • The Narrows is a lovely area of New York City. Neighborhoods on both sides are great for checking out the view, especially the path on the Brooklyn side that runs from 69th Street Pier all the way out to Bay Parkway. The view of the bridge from the Brooklyn side is unobstructed in most places. If you'd like to see an absolutely beautiful sunset, be on the Brooklyn bicycle path and just look straight west.
  • The Verrazano Bridge is enchanting as it spans the width of The Narrows as gateway into NY Harbor.
