Visit Virginia's past at Frontier Culture Museum, a living history museum narrating the story of the Europeans and Africans who populated the Shenandoah River Valley in the early 18th century. The museum's outdoor exhibits include working farms staffed with costumed interpreters, who perform tasks that depict the daily life of German, English, Scottish, and Irish farmers. After visiting the exhibits dedicated to Old World traditions and lifestyles, drop by the museum's American exhibit, which contains recreations of American farm buildings from three different centuries. Be sure to visit the exhibit representing how a group of Native Americans lived in the area around the time European settlers arrived in the early 1700s. • So much to see on these beautifully presented and lovingly kept museum grounds. People in period dress were full of fascinating information and we got to play period games and musical instruments with them. Spent half a day enjoying just the farms of early Ireland, Africa and Germany and the blacksmithing shop. We got to watch a blacksmith while she made items needed to make period-appropriate repairs to exhibits on the grounds. Look forward to going back to visit the early American homes another day soon!
  • Interesting and educational. All exhibits had volunteers there who were knowledgeable and ready to engage visitors. This was a Sunday and few visitors. Awesome. Thoroughly enjoyed it!
