The Wetlands Institute, Stone Harbor

Must see · Wildlife Area · Educational Site
Fun is a major part of every visit to The Wetlands Institute, as everything here combines both education and entertainment!

Every visit begins with Marion’s gardens, award winning gardens which surround the parking lot and line the walkway to the main building. You will pass hundreds of native plants, each chosen to attract birds and butterflies.

We are open all Winter for self-guided tours of all the Institute’s facilities. In the Summer, we offer complete guided tours, as well as back bay boat rides, kayaking, live animal shows, family entertainment and guided beach & dune walks. Visit our events section for more information on schedules.

  • what an amazing place. I enjoyed our tour, watching the hawks with their youngsters. It was amazing to learn about the importance of the tidal land here in our beautiful state of New Jersey. All the birds that come through the Cape May County area on their way to somewhere else and this area offers them a place to rest and rejuvenate . I purchased a book for my husband as a wedding anniversary gift a guide to birds in New Jersey. He is enjoying greatly. We will have to plan another visit late late September so we can experience this beautiful area together!
  • So much fun! We did the Safari which was cool and educational. Such a great organization. Views were great from upstairs too. Can't wait to go back in the spring to see some other animals.
