Fun is a major part of every visit to The Wetlands Institute, as everything here combines both education and entertainment!

Every visit begins with Marion’s gardens, award winning gardens which surround the parking lot and line the walkway to the main building. You will pass hundreds of native plants, each chosen to attract birds and butterflies.

We are open all Winter for self-guided tours of all the Institute’s facilities. In the Summer, we offer complete guided tours, as well as back bay boat rides, kayaking, live animal shows, family entertainment and guided beach & dune walks. Visit our events section for more information on schedules.

  • It is beautiful there. The pools have so many different kinds of birds. The walkways have interesting information along the ways.

  • My daughter has loved coming here since before she could walk (she's 11 this summer)! It's a great way to learn about marine life, the salt march environment, terrapins! We can go every day to...

  • Neat place for kids and adults alike to visit. There’s two inside areas, one dedicated to turtles and one to other marine life. Lots of info to absorb and some kiddie-friendly activities, including hands on exploration of different shells, full sized ocean life bones, and a touch tank type exhibit. The marine life building has a bunch of tanks with different fish and even a shark. Outdoors areas include a walk along a path into the marsh area that includes signs about area plants. There’s a dock/pier at the end with expansive views of the wetlands. There’s a second elevated walking path that takes you out over the marsh as well. It’s cool when the tide is going out as you can literally watch/listen to the area drain. All of the staff we encountered were very friendly and interested in engaging with young kids. There’s summer camps that run out of the Institute, as well as daily activities (marsh walks with a guide, feedings, etc) Highly recommend for family or even solo adults. Worth the small entrance fee ($8 adults, not sure about kids) as I’m sure the money is invested back into the research and institute upkeep. There’s also a small gift shop.
  • We've been coming to The Wetlands Institute since I was a kid. It has barely changed at all, but is lovingly cared for. Good place to see crabs up close, and many hands on activities are run regularly.
