Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve is a United States National Preserve located in the Flint Hills region of Kansas, north of Strong City. The preserve protects a nationally significant example of the once vast tallgrass prairie ecosystem. Of the 400,000 square miles (1,000,000 km2) of tallgrass prairie that once covered the North American continent, less than 5% remains, primarily in the Flint Hills. Since 2009, the preserve has been home to the Tallgrass Prairie bison herd.It couldn't be easier to arrange your visit to Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve and many more Strong City attractions: make an itinerary online using Inspirock's Strong City trip builder website.

This is a very nice National Preserve. There are many, many miles of trails here to hike. Also part of the preserve is an impressive 1880's house and limestone barn so a little ranch history as well. Definitely worth a stop.
An absolute beauty of a place. You can spend hours hiking here, and taking in the scenery. You get to see heard of Bisons. The rangers at the visitor center, who were friendly, can guide you on where to find them. Remember to carry water and some snacks with you. Also get your sunscreen, and bug spray. There's absolutely no shade, so be prepared. The nature trails are on gravel, hence, not stroller and wheelchair friendly. They have a Bottomland trail which is apparently wheelchair friendly.
