Schoolship Program is a half-day science learning experience aboard ISEA's 77' schooner, Inland Seas or the chartered 112' schooner Manitou. The on-board curriculum is designed to compliment the Michigan Grade Level Content Expectations in physical, biological and earth sciences; history and geography. Prior to sailing, teachers receive the Schoolship Teacher's Guide, which contains information and activities to prepare students for the day abroad the Schoolship. Additional information for teachers is available on our website, http://schoolship.org/programs/school-field-trips.

In addition to our Schoolship program for classes, we have a summer sailing schedule that brings individuals, families, and groups on-board for the same hands-on science education experience. We also offer other unique experiences like overnight trips, astronomy sails, and microplastic sails. Learn more about our summer programs at http://schoolship.org/programs/public-and-family-programs.

  • Wonderful trip aboard the schooner INLAND SEAS. Our group of freshman high school girls from Chicago Hope Academy had no prior experience on a sailing vessel, but the ship's captain, Ben Hale, and his crew accommodated us with genuine hospitality. Jillian, the education officer, engaged our girls in numerous activities exploring the biology and environmental challenges of the Great Lakes. Marcell, the cook, keep us well feed; managing to include some of my favorite vegitarian dishes. Our 5 days aboard created friendships and expanded horizons in many directions. Thank you to all donors and staff that support this opportunity and mission! Jamie Copeland
  • This was by far the best limnology field trip i went on during my junior year of highschool...the crew was great and it was so fun, and i will never feel such a sense of serenity again in a long time.
