Covering nearly 12 hectare (29 acres) on the shores of the Puget Sound, Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium houses more than 9,000 animals. Explore the park's wide variety of exhibits divided into themed areas, such as the Asian forest sanctuary, Arctic tundra, red wolf woods, and rocky shores. The 367 different species of zoo residents, many of which originate in the regions surrounding the Pacific Ocean, have lush living areas designed to replicate their natural habitats. Don't miss the multi-level aquarium exhibits, devoted to creatures of the North and South Pacific, including sharks, tropical fish, and a giant octopus. This will always be my favorite zoo! It took a little over 2 hours to slowly walk around the entire zoo and visit all of the exhibits. The grounds and plants they grow are all very interesting and beautiful, and it's wonderful that they label them so we can appreciate them even more. The aquarium never gets boring and it feels like there is more to see each time we visit. There are lots of descriptions and electronic games to help you learn more about the animals and how to help their environment. The exhibits are gorgeous and you feel like you're in another world when you walk inside. The shows are also very fun and informative. The speakers are always very confident and great at what they do, and it's amazing all that they do with their animals! I definitely recommend coming here to visit, and make sure to get tickets in advance since they require time specific tickets (for non-members).

Overall it was a lovely experience, though the crowds were a bit much, it was to expected over spring break. The gift shop had decent prices, and the staff was very nice and informative. It is clear all the animals are very well cared for. The only downside is that one of the aquariums is closed for renovation. I would have loved to see it, but what we did see was wonderful.
