Visit Tallahassee Museum and explore its extensive array of exhibits and enclosures, which combine historical displays with a living menagerie of wildlife from the state. Wander among outdoor exhibits showing replica 19th-century farmhouses, along boardwalks leading you over cypress swamps, and through old plantations and churches to learn more about the state's history and social development. Delve into the wildlife section to see a sampling of local species in their natural habitats, including black bears, bobcats, snakes, and several endangered species such as the Florida panther and red wolf. Be sure to check the museum's website for information about scheduled animal encounters and the many temporary exhibits on show. What a nice little animal park this place is. Now there are some historical buildings on the grounds. So I guess it is a museum by definition. But with pandemic protocols in place, most were... more »

This was my families first visit to the Tallahassee Museum since we moved to the Tallahassee area a year ago. We were pleasantly surprised! First off, go on a nice day. Mostly all of the museum is outside. When we arrived we were planning on paying, but they had a free day. There was face painting, drawing of caricatures, and free food! We saw everything the museum had to offer in around two hours. The animals seemed better off than at a zoo. My husband hates zoos, but he said he liked the way they had the fencing instead of bars. The museum does a good job of making it seem like it's more blended in with nature. My teens enjoyed the experience of stepping back in time. They also enjoyed seeing the animals. My husband and I enjoyed being out in nature and the time with our family!

I have been here a couple of times when visiting Tallahassee and I really enjoyed it both times. It is not what you think of as a traditional MUSEUM. It is very much an outdoor kind of place. You Can learn a lot about Florida history and nature and see pretty plants and animals.
