Once home to the famous cowboy, Kit Carson Home & Museum now hosts artifacts, antique firearms, and photos from Kit Carson's life. This National Historic Landmark housed the Carson family from 1843 to 1867, and today it preserves and educate visitors on the old way of life. Check out the adobe baking stove and drying rack, and admire Carson's belongings, including a U.S. Army sabre and scabbard, a Masonic hat, and a replica of a .50 caliber Hawkins rifle. In the beginning of the tour, be sure to watch the 20-minute video about the cowboy, and learn more by picking up reading material from the gift shop. • It was $10 per person. Basically watched a video from the History Channel. The house was pretty cool. Not very big. Without the video it only takes a few minutes to tour. I understand the expense of upkeep and all but was hoping for more personal items.
  • Other than the building there's not much here that is directly tied to Kit Carson. Very few original artifacts, mostly reproductions and pieces of peripheral interest. What there is, isn't presented in a manner that stimulates thought or discussion. I didn't see anything that addressed any of the controversial aspects of his life.
