#1 of 13 in Museums in Taos
Art Museum · Specialty Museum
Enjoy the diverse works at Millicent Rogers Museum, one of the first cultural institutions in New Mexico to exhibit a large collection of Hispanic art. Millicent Rogers and her mother, Mary Rogers, were avid collectors of New Mexican artwork, and their collections provided the foundation for the museum. Explore the galleries filled with Native American and Hispanic artifacts, such as textiles, pottery, jewelry, and photographs. See the large collection of Zuni and Hopi kachina dolls, which represent generous spirits that supported hunters and the well-being of the people who made them. Works of the Taos Pueblo people also grace the gallery walls, paying homage to a local community of artists. Enjoy a self-guided tour, but keep your camera off; photography is not allowed. • Great museum. I would have loved more history and photos of Millicent Rogers herself. The Maria Martinez pottery room was fascinating. There were a couple rooms towards the end that I breezed through. One room had drawings from high school students. Great drawings, but an abundance and not of interest. The placards are well detailed. Overall, definitely worth a visit!
  • I only had a short afternoon in Taos, so only had time for one museum. I am happy with my selection, as the collection has a delightful variety of historic and contemporary pieces from the locality. I left delighted, amazed and further informed, which is everything i could ask from a good museum. A top notch experience for $10!
