Visit Tarpon Springs Sponge Docks, one of the world's leading natural sponge markets. Since 1890, the sponge harvesting industry had been developing in this small seaside resort. Divers from Greece were brought to the United States, and they would use diving equipment to collect these aquatic animals and prepare them for sale. At the beginning of the 20th century, the resort became known as the Sponge Capital of the World. Today, you can learn about the sponge harvesting industry at the site, hear about its history, and buy sponges to use for bathing, decorating, and cleaning. Tarpon Springs Sponge Docks reviews
I was told the shops recently reopened and over the July 4th weekend, this place was crowded. Excellent Greek food. Visit the gentlemen with a cigar booth - enjoy a cold beer and smoke if you wish. more »

Super cool place, the parking is 2-5 dollars depending on where you park, and they have many attractions including sponge shops, handmade soap, Greek pastries and desserts, delicious Greek food, clothing, candy shops, boutiques, and some good priced leather bag shops. There are also places like beef jerky shops, and ice cream places. There are many people handing out boat tours that are relatively cheap. Overall cool place!
🏧💵🚙 Bring cash (~$5) for parking. Sunglasses and/or a hat aren't a bad idea, either. ❤️ The Sponge Docks are always a great time, especially if you have family or friends visiting from out of the area, they will have a great time! There's a myriad of retailers and restaurants! If you aren't hungry, thirsty, or in the mood to walk or shop, you can still take in the beautiful and charming locale! Great way to kill a few hours, especially in the autumn and winter months!
