Florida Keys Wild Bird Rehabilitation Center
Meet feathered friends who have been injured and are now in the process of rehabilitation at Florida Keys Wild Bird Rehabilitation Center. The center aims to release birds back into the wild, but also provides shelter for the birds that cannot be released. To educate the public on peaceful coexistence with wild birds, the center provides information on its work. The self-guided tour leads you along the boardwalk--where each aviary is marked--and gives general information on the particular species, as well as more specific details about the rescued bird. You are welcome to get close to the birds but remember that they are wild; some may not want to interact with people. Small bird sanctuary. Very good information about their resident birds! It was neat to be able to get so close to some of them. It seemed like seem birds were very used to people and were even showing off a little bit. You cannot see the pelicans at the moment-their enclosure is being remodeled.

It's a great little place. There's no fee to go but they appreciate donations. You can give cash or there's a tablet you can donate with your card. All the birds that are there can't be released back in the wild and need care. Each bird has a sign that says why they're there and a bit about the type. It's very informative. You can walk along the pathway until the waters edge. It's very shallow so you can look at all the little fish and sea creatures too. Watch your head as you walk if you're taller, there's lots of orb weaver spider webs from tree to tree. They're harmless spiders that are cool to look at. All in all it was a cool little side detour on our day trip. There's a very small amount of parking with not much room, so if you have a very large truck, trailer or RV you're not going to be able to fit in the drive in.
