Telluride is more than just a ski town; don't forget, you're a tourist! But this is a lovely community within families raising their kids to do the things that they love. I've seen families out mountain biking, hiking, horseback riding, attending music festivals..... it's beautiful beyond imagination.
Beautiful area, inspiring views, and a great atmosphere. I went during the summer, but it was still busy and full of festivals and great activities. The high altitude takes a few days to get used to, especially as you are walking (or taking gondolas) everywhere - you definitely get your steps in. There is a lot of wealth in this small town, which helps inspire an open and easy-going lifestyle.
