  • A must-see spot in traverse city.
  • I had been waiting over 15 years to make the trip up and the wait was well worth it! Our guide Vanessa was fabulous! She has a strong bond with the campus and love for the grounds that really came out during the walk! She engaged the group with personal stories, and managed to scare a few along the way in good fun! Listening to how the buildings once were and learning about the kind gestures residents gave helped pull us into that moment in time. The only thing I have to suggest is to inform the group about the living conditions residents at one time endured along with overcrowding and treatments they suffered. Not for shock value but rather for a deep look into the history. I served clients who once lived there, prior to the mid 70s and the list of "treatments" are horrible. Knowing their past what they suffered allowed me to understand their "behaviors " with open eyes and loving heart. Regardless I will be coming back again soon for the photography tour....
