Lake Norman State Park, formerly Duke Power State Park, is a 1934acre North Carolina state park near Troutman, Iredell County, North Carolina in the United States. The park is on the northern shore of Lake Norman at the mouth of Hicks Creek. The park is open for year-round recreation including, boating, fishing, water skiing, swimming and camping. Lake Norman State Park is on Inland Sea Road in Troutman just off U.S. Route 70 between Interstates 40 and 77.
Lake Norman, created between 1959 and 1964 as part of the construction of the Cowans Ford Dam by Duke Power, is the largest manmade body of fresh water in North Carolina. It is fed by the Catawba River. It was named after former Duke Power president Norman Cocke. Lake Norman is sometimes referred to as the "inland sea"; it offers 520mi of shoreline and a surface area of more than 50sqmi.

  • We RV camp here on several occasions and love it. They are one of the few Park that can accommodate large trailer and still offer nature privacy and this reason alone is why I love it as compared to.....  more »
  • We spent a few days on Lake Norman last week and had the opportunity to visit this state park for a day. We love to hike and living in South Florida does not give us the hiking experiences we used to....  more »

  • Little lake side beach is good for kids, its not a big one but can definitely worth it going for it. Great place for picnics and the shelters are pretty good size. View are not that great but if you enjoy hiking you can spend couple hours without having a trouble. Great!!
  • 2⬇FREE, $4 2-12yrs old, $6 12+ FREE after 5:30 or when there are NO LIFE GUARDS... Is an awesome place that includes variety of activities that include fishing, swimming biking\walking trails, picnic areas, also changing rooms and showers, a place to buy snacks an drinks (closes at 5:30) but you can bring in coolers just a lot of steps to carry down so pack light Great place to teach kids to swim Has roped off area up to 5ft deep and PROVIDES FREE LIFE JACKETS in all different sizes!! Great place to take the whole family!
