With a waterfall taller than Niagara Falls, Taughannock Falls State Park is a must-see for nature lovers. The impressive falls stand 66 m (215 ft) high, which is 10 m (33 m) taller than Niagara's. The water from the falls continues through a gorge surrounded by high cliff walls. The short gorge trail is an easy walk and offers the best views of the plunging falls. The park also includes campsites and cabins on Cayuga Lake, with a nearby beach, marina, and boat launch. The state park provides organized tours of the gorge. Depending on which trail you take, your journey may be easy or moderate, but all are beautiful. I took the easy 3/4 mile gorge trail to the falls for a ground level view of the falls. It was amazing..... more »

Stopping in Ithaca for just a day, several locals said this was one of the top falls to visit...and it did not disappoint! The falls were magnificent...taller than Niagara. The trails were well kept and there were excellent photo opportunities. In addition to the hike down to the falls, the North Rim and South Rim trails were a great addition to the experience. Our elementary aged kids loves it. Its a great place for animals as lots of folks were walking their dogs. The restroom facilities were clean and well maintained while the gift shop and park employees were helpful in making the most of our time there. Parking was a little full on a Sunday afternoon, but there was a triathlon that day too.

I really have to say I enjoy walking the trails at Taughannock I don't seem to do it nearly as much as I should. But this last time I was there I walked the bottom trail and I walked it alone. I have walked that trail probably 50 times since I've lived in Ithaca and that was the first time I walked the trail alone. It was just breath taking! I left my phone in the car as well!! Anyways I just wanted to say it is a wonderfully place to go for a walk!
