Caballo Lake State Park is a state park of New Mexico, United States, located 16 miles (26 km) south of Truth or Consequences on the Rio Grande. Caballo Lake was created in the 1930s when an earthen dam was built across the Rio Grande. The dam is 96 feet (29 m) tall and 4,558 feet (1,389 m) across. The size of the lake varies by season, but when the lake is full, it is over 11,500 acres (47 km2) in area, and 18 miles (29 km) long, making it New Mexico's third largest lake.

The primary attraction of the lake is fishing, with bass and walleye fishing most popular.

  • A great well maintained park with lots of walking trails that are not strenuous. Quite and relaxing. Rv spots were easy to get into with little to no backing up required . Also some nice boondock...

  • Nice clean park beautiful views very friendly staff. Minutes away from Hatch,New Mexico,Elephant Butte, & Silver City. Good spot to stop for lunch or overnight.
  • Nice, clean place to stay. The bathrooms are clean, but not checked everyday. One of the stalls was out of toilet paper for a couple days before filled. The showers are a little annoying. They are push button, so you either have to hold the button in, or push it every few seconds, or it will turn off. The lights in the bathroom are motion sensored, so they turned off while I was in the middle of my shower. Also, you can't get here using the Google Maps directions. It will try and take you down someone's private road 6 miles from here. You have to plug in EV Charger, click on the one for Caballo, and follow those directions instead. The lake area is very nice. We enjoyed spending time there.
