Experience what early life was like for rock-and-roll legend Elvis Presley, and see firsthand how his childhood influenced his musical genius at Elvis Presley Birthplace & Museum. Here, you can walk through the small house where "The King" was born and lived until he was 13, when his family moved to Memphis in search of a better life. You can also go inside the Assembly of God church where the Presley family worshipped often and where Elvis first encountered gospel music. This genre appeared within many of his famous songs later in his career. The museum itself displays a variety of Elvis memorabilia, such as jumpsuits that he wore during performances. • Even a true Elvis fan would find it hard to love this site. The museum itself has few original pieces (most are at Graceland) and doesn't allow pictures. The house itself is nicely restored with authentic period pieces. You do get a good feel for how poor the family was. The docent was excellent and provided information and stories. The grounds are beautifully landscaped.
  • Really well done. All laid out as an easy walk. We actually went in the morning before it opened so it was nice and cool and we had the grounds pretty much to ourselves. Some of the inside stuff would have been nice to see, but we got a very good feel for everything and it was so well presented. Highly recommended going
