Create an itinerary including Tybee Island Light Station And Museum
On the site of one of the few remaining colonial lighthouses in the country today, Tybee Island Light Station And Museum provides the history of the structure and its human users through nearly three centuries of existence. Originally constructed in 1736 and modified over 250 years, the 44 m (144 ft) tall lighthouse changed hands multiple times in its lifetime, most recently falling under Confederate control during the American Civil War. You can explore the museum's exhibits, artifacts, and treasures from the lighthouse's history, which are housed in former gunpowder magazines in the surrounding military installation. Be aware that the 178 steps to the top of the tower pose a challenge. If you have mobility or health issues, they are best avoided. • A very nice experience to see and walk up to the top of the lighthouse. It is nicely restored and the information and items on display are great. Free parking. Restrooms are available.

  • An amazing historic site!! The light house and buildings on site have been totally renovated but kept in its original form as much as possible. Very impressive learning how the last light keeper lived with his family of six on the property. you can view the home go inside, most of the original furniture was kept. The lighthouse is 178 stairs to climb, five flights of stairs. Exhausting but it has beautiful views when you reach the top totally very well worth it. Lots of picture opportunities throughout. Beautiful items in the gift shop.free Parking readily available. On
  • I loved it here. If you love light houses like I do then this is a must see. The view once you get to the top is amazing. The staff I met *Hope* was very friendly and knowledgeable and it was a great conversation all around. I would've stayed and talked to her all day!
