Tantaquidgeon Museum, Uncasville

A very friendly and knowledgeable staff. A small museum with great local artifacts of the Mohegan tribe. Very good for getting help on any Native American research project.

The museum grounds are beautiful and full of opportunities to learn and understand the Mohegan people. I anticipated my young daughters would learn a lot but was surprised when it became an impactful learning scenario for me. The staff or volunteers were all very friendly, patient with young children, answered a variety of questions on a range of topics, told stories, and guided us about the importance of the artifacts. Such as explaining that the dog skull rattle was meaningful because dogs while alive offer protection and the dog skull rattle calls on that protection before starting something dangerous. Everything seemed authentic and meant to build knowledge and build in more knowledge upon that.
