Riverside Theatre is the only professional producing theatre on the Treasure Coast. The theatre was built in 1973 by Carroll Otto and other supporters. The theatre was used by the Vero Beach Theatre Guild, the local community theatre group, and occasional bus and truck tours. In 1980, the Riverside Children’s Theatre added education and programming for children to these activities. In 1983, the Friends of Riverside Theatre, a fundraising group, started the Celebrity Series with an appearance by Ray Charles. The most pivotal moment in the history of the Theatre took place in 1984 when the Theatre’s Board suggested that the Guild move to a different location because they were not selling enough tickets and Riverside becoming a producing professional theatre and the rest is history. In 1999 the board had a vision for a new building and started the fundraising right away and by 2003 they had their first blueprint of the theatre. The building was finished in March of 2007 and by August the campaign had raised 21,400,000 for the new facility.Add Riverside Theatre and other attractions to your Vero Beach trip itinerary using our Vero Beach trip planner .

The purpose of this endowment is to help build audience to the shows at the theatre. The more people we have to fill the seats will give us a chance to produce bigger named shows. This is a goal of ours to accomplish by the end of this year, so we can provide the more recognized shows at the theatre. By building this audience with people that have never been here before is a real challenge but we guarantee they will not be disappointed in what the theatre has to offer them this season with shows. The more people that give Riverside theatre a chance equals keeping theatre alive around the country.
