Woodford Reserve Distillery, Versailles

#1 of 16 in Things to do in Versailles
Woodford Reserve is a brand of premium small batch Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey produced in Woodford County, Kentucky by the Brown-Forman Corporation. It is made from a mixture of pot still spirits produced at the company's Woodford Reserve Distillery there, and column still spirits from the Brown Forman Distillery in Shively, Kentucky. Each 45.2% alcohol by volume (90.4 US Proof) bottle bears a unique batch and bottle number.
The Woodford Reserve Distillery, formerly known as the Old Oscar Pepper Distillery and later the Labrot & Graham Distillery, is approximately eight miles from the town of Versailles in north-central Kentucky, off U.S. Route 60 between Interstate 64 and Versailles.
Distilling on the site began in 1780, with today's distillery building erected in 1838. Although the site has not been continuously operational as a distillery since, the structure stands as the oldest of the nine bourbon distilleries in operation in Kentucky as of 2010. In 1995 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and in 2000 was designated a National Historic Landmark.

  • We went on the tour and had Leah as our guide. The tour was really educational and engaging. The grounds here are gorgeous. The Rick house had great views of the barrels. The mash room was awesome, with huge open wooden vats that you could walk right up to and the smell was absolutely fantastic. We had already been on three tours before we came here but it was still absolutely worth it. And did I forget to mention that the end product is delicious?!
  • Woodford Reserve distillery tour was such a great experience. The distillery is located out in the beautiful green fields of Kentucky. The tour costs $20 and is well worth it. You start in the main building and take a small bus down to the other buildings 1 minute away. Then you take a walking tour through the fermenting building, bottling building and barrel storage building. You then take the bus back up to the main building for the tasting. At the tasting you get to sample 3 different varieties and also get to sample a bourbon chocolate ball. The guide very thoroughly explains each bourbon. Our guide was very friendly and easy to listen to. She made it fun and interesting. After the tasting you can go out and shop the small gift shop or purchase a mixed drink from the small bar. I highly recommend visiting and taking a tour of Woodford Reserve Distillery.
