  • You can learn a lot about the history of the river here, how they have learned to control it, and how important it was to the development of the US. The best part is touring a decommisioned river...

  • Amazing museum. Learned so much about the Mississippi River that I didn’t know. We were able to wander around a ship that patrolled the River.

  • This place is full of MS river history and I enjoyed reading all about it . The boat was pretty big and was still in its former arrangement as when the crew members were aboard . Also it’s Free ! There’s nothing to complain about when your getting educated for free ! Loved it here and I’ll definitely be returning. Also my 10 year old was amazed by the boat and thought it was fascinating.
  • This center is free, so don't skip it. Start by watching the movie, which is short but interesting. There are interesting and informative displays about the Mississippi River - how it developed and how it's controlled and used by the Army Core of Engineers. Some of the displays are interactive, and there's a spot especially for children. The riverboat is accessible to walk through and imagine what life on the river was like. This museum is one of the places in downtown Vicksburg that's open on Sunday, although the hours are shorter than during the week. We're so glad we visited here! You can walk to the murals and see other riverfront sights from the museum.
