Create an itinerary including Vicksburg National Military Park
Complete with 1,325 monuments, restored fortifications, and 20 km (12.5 mi) of trails, Vicksburg National Military Park immerses you in the 1863 Battle of Vicksburg. The site of one of the American Civil War's most critical campaigns, Vicksburg represented a vital Confederate river port, and its siege and subsequent capture by the North on July 4, 1863, effectively cut the South in two. You'll find numerous reconstructed earthworks and trenches, along with their accompanying artillery batteries, spread out along the Mississippi River. Discover the different memorials to specific states and units throughout the area; 26 km (16 mi) of roads allow you to visit them all by car. Don't miss the restored USS Cairo, a U.S. gunboat sunk and later raised for display. For more information, stop by the visitor center to see artifacts and displays about the battle. Take the guesswork out of planning a Vicksburg vacation by using our trip itinerary maker.

  • Going through this battlefield is a very powerful and moving experience. Just imagining all the things that went on here is hard to fathom. If you like any type of American history this is a must...

  • Much more to this place than meets the eye. Be sure to come early in the day, as it takes nearly an hour just to drive around the place. Since it is run by the NPS, your gate pass is good for 7 days.
  • Almost done with the tree work wall building time next come see
