Follow students’ footsteps through the original 1876 school building, the last one standing of its kind in the U.S.. Sit in the same wooden desks as they did from 1876 to 1936. You can explore Virginia City history, Mark Twain's life, letter press printing, alumni’s lives, Comstock mining, abandoned mine issues, and new exhibits in the other classrooms. Ask in the museum store if you can pull the rope to hear the school bell.

  • Not only does the museum give the history of the school itself. You can also learn all about the history of the mining boom here.

  • Great museum! They cover history of the school as well as history of mining and Virginia City too! This school was built to educate over 1000 students at the same time! Many of the original desks and maps and furnishings are still there. If you go to Virginia City, this is well worth your time to see.
  • This was a nice place to see. It has a lot of the history and photos of old Virginia City. I didn't post any photos of the inside as its a paid museum, but it was worth the price of admission.
