The visitors Ctr is nice and the people who work there are informative. Peak of Otter shouldn't be a designation. Just enjoy a little of the Blue Ridge Pkwy and then get off. The Lodge is also over.... more

There's a great little nature museum in the visitor center, an amphitheater in the back, and a few trails through the land behind. Shopping in the visitor center and the gift shop next door is really nice! You could totally decorate a Christmas tree with just ornaments from the Blue Ridge Parkway. Each area has their own stuff - it's not all the same thing at each place.

We hiked the loop that starts behind the visitor center. It's 4 miles give or take. First half uphill not too strenuous. Second half downhill. All forest with many Rock formations near the peak of the hike. Good exercise.
