Jagger Museum offers sheltered viewing of a volcanic crater. Visit the outdoor terrace to get an even closer look inside the volcano. One of the busiest spots on the Crater Rim Drive Tour, the museum features seismographs that track volcanic activity so you'll know if an eruption is coming with plenty of time to evacuate. See suits worn by volcanologists who got a little too close to lava flows. When you park, look out for the nene, Hawaii's official bird. The geese wander the parking lot looking for snacks. See Jagger Museum and all Volcano has to offer by arranging your trip with our Volcano holiday builder app.

  • So many memories... Will cherish this spot forever, building was compromised during the 60,000+ earthquakes that occurred right below the building

  • Even though we live nearby, Jaguar museum was always a great source of information for us and our visitors. Due last summer’s eruption, the museum and overlook are closed.

  • The museum is closed but you can still go to the overlook! There is lots of parking but it does fill up around sunset. You can see across the caldera (but not as far down as you can from the Kilauea overlook down the road). Come here if that one is too crowded and you cannot find parking! It offers a similar but notably different view.
  • Wonderful place. We could see live volcanoes beside this museum. We could gather knowledge about the local people & history of volcanoes eruption here. The Polynesians tribes history was there. We could see lot of books too there & those were available for sale. The scientists studying about volcanoes, tools were kept there to look at.
