we went to view the lava during the day - it is quite a trek! and only saw a little steam went back at 9:30 pm and the lava view was SPECTACULAR!

We hiked all the way up to the crater. Tedious and boring crossing lava field after lava field until you reach the summit and realize you're at the scariest place in the word because of the immensity of this volcano. You have to see it to believe it. I felt as never before. Only do this if you're in the best condition and very well equiped for such a challenge. It's a no mercy hike! But if you are able and want to experience nature's destructive might, this is a once in a lifetime experience.
