Enjoy spectacular views of crested buttes and rugged red cliffs while hiking the geological wonder that is Waimea Canyon State Park. Fondly known as the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific,” the canyon stretches over 22.5 km (14 mi) and is 1,097 m (3,600 ft) deep. Hike along the deep valley gorge to the Waimea Overlook to admire the vivid red and green coloring of the volcanic canyon and for panoramic views of the Kaua’i interior. You can rent a car to explore the area or catch a tour bus to the top of the canyon. Be sure to carry a jacket, as the area tends to be very windy. • Spectacular views from the lookouts. We did one of the hikes and loved it…take your time on hikes as ours had tree roots everywhere but worth it. You can spend all day here… lots to do … hikes...

  • A beautiful hike with amazing views. If you are lucky enough to do it on a clear day, you can see the entire north part of the island!

  • We visited in May of 2021 and it was absolutely breathtaking. We drove up here to each of the lookouts, and the canyon has so much color; if you look closely you can spot a waterfall too :) Unfortunately though you really do have to go when there's practically zero clouds in the sky because at the very top we could see nothing. It's supposed to have the best views, with the canyon and the blue sea, but we weren't able to glimpse anything. However, even though there were clouds at the top the other lookouts have amazing views of the canyon that you can't miss! Kauai is a small island so even if you're only here a few days this is a must!!
  • Very Beautiful. I suggest that you arrive in the morning as it is more likely to cloud over later in the day. Also (personally speaking) I believe the first and last lookout are most impressive and are rather unique from one another. The others (in between) are similar to the first stop.
