The Waimea Theater originally opened on September 2, 1938. Hurricane Iniki destroyed the decorative marquee and front elements in 1992.Work out when and for how long to visit Waimea Theater and other Waimea attractions using our handy Waimea trip maker site.
The County of Kauaʻi purchased the building in 1996 and funding for the restoration was provided by the Federal Economic Development Agency and a grant from the U.S. Housing and Urban Development.
The Historic Waimea Theater once again re-opened to the public in August of 1999, managed by the West Kauaʻi Business & Professional Association who raised $40,000 in start-up funds.
The renovated theater now accommodates 270 patrons and features a stage, big movie screen, state-of-the-art sound system, snack bar and rattan seat loge section. It also provides a multi-media projection system allowing for meetings, presentations, private parties and other live events.
We offer group booking rates, concession discounts and private showings. To book the Historic Waimea Theater for your next special event, please contact our box office at 808-338-2027.

Seats were tight on the sides and my knees hit the seat in front of me. There is no room to get up and use the bathroom if you’re in the middle. The seats need a retrofit. Nobody will miss the old seats. The Art Deco style outside is cool. The bathrooms have been renovated and are nice. The concessions were good. The staff was friendly and very concerned with safety. Theater may have been oversold that night though.

Such a rad little theater. Anyone complaining about the old school atmosphere and finds something this place should “improve” on has bigger issues in their lives. This place is perfect. Makes you feel at home. Staff is beyond nice. Snacks are tasty. Popcorn is buttery. It’s a slice of the past and a simpler time.
