Rulo Winery, Walla Walla

#24 of 39 in Wineries in Walla Walla
Winery / Vineyard · Hidden Gem · Food & Drink
Rulo winery was born May 2000. We are an ~2800 annual case production winery in Walla Walla, WA. Kurt and Vicki co-own the winery and Kurt is the winemaker. We are the sole employees and self-distribute our wine.

The Rulo label and logo is that of three of the six grain silos which comprise the Rulo grain elevator station. All grain elevators in the valley are named and the location of one's farm is typically associated in relation to its nearest grain elevator station. We refer to this as, "farmer GPS." This active elevator station is located NW of the winery by 11 miles. The picturesque drive to the Rulo elevator reminds us all of the agricultural background of the Walla Walla Valley. As we were going through the process of naming our winery, we chose to honor the history of the wheat industry and combine it with the burgeoning new grape industry and adopted the name RULO.

  • One of the best kept secrets in Walla Walla. In fact, I'm hesitant to write about them because I don't want anyone else to know about this place: I want it all to myself. Their wine is spectacular; artisan and heart-felt, ingenious and original. I love the variations they do on Chardonnay. If you can get some rose snag as much as you can because it goes fast. Its been a while since I went on a big weekend (barrel tasting, spring release, etc.) but I recall they make an awesome spread of cheeses. 'Just Really good people. Oh yeah, because they don't use a distributor, their wines are 10-20% cheaper than everyone else.
  • Delicious white wines. Kurt the winemaker was friendly and he answers all kinds of crazy questions. Oh, and lay the whites down if you can wait. They taste even better the longer you can wait. We tried an '08 Chard and a '02 Vognier, Wow the layers of flavor are worth waiting for.
