The Shawangunk Grasslands National Wildlife Refuge is a wildlife refuge located in Ulster County, New York, United States.

Formerly the Galeville Military Airport, it was decommissioned in 1994 and turned over to the United States Fish and Wildlife Service in 1999. It serves as a waypoint for grassland-dependent migratory birds.

  • We visit this old airport, now grassland, from time to time to watch birds. Don’t forget to take binoculars. A great place to spend a few hours on a Saturday afternoon.  more »
  • Peaceful setting to relax or a 1-2 mile walk with birds and other wildlife abound
  • Always an amazing time at this place. Wonderfully maintained and amazing bird life. Large parking lot. Trails to walk around (when there’s no ice/snow) as well as a viewing platform.
