Home to about 850 animals representing 275 species, Turtle Back Zoo welcomes half million people annually to its themed exhibits. See a sea lion tank and prowl along a penguin coastline; tour habitats of large cats, wolves, bears, and alligators; and visit a reptile center. Wildlife aficionados won't want to miss the 2.7 m (9 ft) long lizard that was discovered in 2005 and still has no scientific name. Can foxes fly? You'll find out by seeking out the first flying foxes in any United States' zoo--giant bats that can reach a weight of 1.1 kg (2.4 lb) with a 1.5 m (4.9 ft) wingspan. The zoo is a part of South Mountain Recreation Complex. To visit Turtle Back Zoo and other attractions in West Orange, use our West Orange trip maker tool.

Great zoo. Staff are nice, and a decent amount / variety of exhibits, well maintained. We loved getting to pet the stingrays, they were like naughty kids splashing us! 🤣 On the other hand: Directional signs around the zoo are NONEXISTENT! All zoos, amusement parks and even regular parks have signs (at least at intersections) but this zoo totally missed that. As of June 2021 I think it's well priced @ $17/Adult or $14/child. Though I will say I was really shocked to see the simple butterfly exhibit costing more money. That's pretty basic and should be included. It left an unpleasant feeling. Overall it's a really nice zoo and I do recommend it but adding signage and including the butterfly exhibit would improve it a lot. *** Helpful? Hit the 👍*** 🙏 Thanks! 😇

Love Turtle Back Zoo! We recently bought the membership because we love it so much. It's small enough to get through in a shorter amount of time so it's perfect for our toddler. They have timed slots which made us feel very comfortable in terms of smaller crowds and maintaining social distancing. The train ride is a huge hit with the little ones too! Would definitely recommend a visit to anyone looking for a fun day trip!
